making and maturing disciples of Jesus Christ in Birmingham and for the world

Sing to the LORD a new song; sing to the LORD, all the earth. Psalm 96:1

From time to time, we learn new songs in our services. Here you can listen to some we have learned most recently, which may help you to learn them more quickly.

Up to the hill of Calvary (Hallelujah for the cross)

This song explores Jesus’ journey to Calvary and what that means for us; love has won, death has lost – hallelujah for the cross.

Mine are days that God has numbered (Christ is mine forevermore)

This song contrasts some of the experiences of life on earth (‘looking for worldly treasure’, ‘times of sorrow’ and ‘harm and hatred for his name’) with what we have through Christ (‘hope in our Redeemer’, ‘peace that flows from heaven’ and ‘keys to Zion city’). The response is ‘Come rejoice now, O my soul’.

Through all life’s sorrows (Where, o grave, is your victory?)

This song based on 1 Corinthians 15 reminds us that because Jesus was raised, we too can be raised and the grave and sin have no power over us.

Who could know your thoughts (I stand in awe)

This song reminds us of God’s greatness through creation and then through to the cross.

The grace of God has reached for me (The Lord is my salvation)

“This is a song of testimony, inspired in part by Psalm 27. Our witness, at the simplest level, is telling another person what Christ has done for us. Singing songs of faith helps build our confidence in the God who calls us to serve, with both our words and our lives.” Keith & Kristyn Getty

See Him in Jerusalem

This powerful song describes Jesus’ ministry during his time on earth from walking with the crowds, to being led to the cross and his death and resurrection. This song uniquely describes some of the truths of the gospels with lines like “once these streets had sung to him, now they cry for murder”, “shielding sinners with his blood” and “once the servant of the world, now in victory reigning”.

Holy Spirit, Living Breath of God

We introduced this song as we realised we had very few songs that focus on the ministry of the Holy Spirit. The words powerfully describe the Holy Spirit’s renewing power.
