Glory awaits!

“God demonstrates his own love for us in this: while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”

(Romans 5:8)

 Dear Brothers and Sisters,

Glory awaits!

Perhaps you, like me bought the book of the term ‘Our Radiant Redeemer’ to read over Lent. I did, though I am still catching up on some of the days I missed! I have though, really enjoyed some of the insights about how the Transfiguration affects us now. In his Good Friday reflection, Tim Chester notes Jesus going to the cross to die reveals:

  1. Human sin – our inner rebellion against God is displayed in putting Jesus to death.
  2. God’s love – Jesus willingly died for sin, so sinners can be welcomed in to God’s holy presence.

As he says, “without the cross, our future is the darkness of judgement. But if we embrace the message of the cross with its offer of forgiveness, then our future is the light of glory.” (p.175, Chester).

This is a staggering thought:

“the transfiguration is also the promise of our glory if we entrust ourselves to Jesus. The future of Jesus glimpsed in the transfiguration has become the future of his people.” (p.176)

One day, when Jesus returns and ushers in the new heavens and the new earth, our broken humanity will be gloriously transformed. As 1 John puts it ‘when Christ appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is’ (1 John 3:2). It’s where all who trust in Jesus are headed.

We will get to share in the glory of Jesus fully in the new creation – a place without death or mourning or suffering or pain, which will be wonderful. But as Chester explains “it will not be the golden pavements or crystal seas that captivate us. In all creation, what will hold our attention most will be the wounds of love still visible in his hands and feet. (p.176)

Gloriously, because of the death and resurrection of Jesus. We too, will one day behold the glory of our God face to face. Gloriously transformed. Praising Jesus, our King, the Lamb who was slain.

Glory awaits. It’s where you’re headed if you trust in Jesus.

Why not spend some time praising God now for these glorious realities!

Thank you Jesus, for what you achieved in your death and resurrection. Thank you that one day we will share in your glory as we see you face to face and sing of your great worth. Amen

With love in Christ,
