If only I could get a super injunction…

Dear Friends,

If I’m honest, I don’t really understand the technicalities of injunctions and super injunctions.  So, if I’ve got any of the details wrong, please correct me.  But wouldn’t we all like to be able to take out a super injunction if we could?  Don’t we all have things that we’d like to keep hidden?  And wouldn’t it be nice to be able to hide the fact that anything had been hidden at all?  It would be very convenient.  And if we could then guarantee that our future actions remained hidden as well, just imagine what we might be able to do…  Actually, it would be absolutely appalling.  The prospect of being exposed is, thankfully, one of the things that keeps us from being as wicked or cruel or deceitful or unfaithful as we might otherwise be.

Do you know anyone who has nothing to hide?  Anyone whose every action and every word stands up to scrutiny?  Anyone who has no regrets over a single thing they’ve done or said?  Anyone who wouldn’t take the chance to live at least part of their life over again?  Anyone who would happily open up their life to inspection, confident that no dirt would be found?  I can only think of one, and that’s Jesus, who “committed no sin, and no deceit was found in his mouth” (1 Peter 2:22).  Here’s yet another reason to love him, worship him and follow him.

Chris Hobbs.

Vicar.
