The first member of St Stephen’s we met was Jem, then church administrator and about 8 months pregnant with her first child, which was before I even joined the church but when we came to look round Birmingham before moving here. A few years later we were members of the church family and had our own first child, and Jem and many others welcomed me into the Tuesday Morning Fellowship Group.  Very kind, patient members of the church family ran a crêche for the older babies and toddlers, and we read the bible with tiny babies in our arms upstairs – such a delight while adjusting to being a new mother, and so essential to be reminded of truths from God’s word, despite being in a sleep-deprived haze. One of my favourite things about the group is receiving and participating in meal rotas, usually just after people have had babies.  I believe that being in a group of people who are convinced of God’s care for them helps us to care for each other, and we never have to worry about doing more than our fair share, as we know that God has done so much for us!
