Are you part of God’s body-building team?

In 1 Corinthians, Paul describes God’s people, (that’s us if we believe in Jesus!) as the body of Christ. “Now you are the body of Christ and each one of you is a part of it.” (12:27). Now the thing about a body is that every part has something important to do for the body to work properly; and that is true for the people of God too. Every one of us is needed, every one important, valued, given a significant part to play by God himself towards the goal of “building up the church,” (14:12). Building up the church includes everything we do to introduce people to Jesus (engaging and evangelising those outside church) and to grow believers to be more like Jesus (establishing and equipping Christians).

What part do you play in that here when we gather on Sunday or during the week? Are you part of the welcome team ensuring newcomers are cared for, or the refreshments team helping us as we encourage one another after the service, or the music team leading us as we praise God, or the technical team making sure we sing the right words, hear the preacher and see the right pictures, or the children and youth teams teaching our young people, or the set up team, or …? All our efforts, no matter how small, are needed and valued by God our Father. So keep going!

If you’re not yet stuck in, we are all missing out because God has given you a part to play too so that we work properly. What could it be? Why not speak to someone today and join in with building up God’s body?

Yours in Christ,

Andy Martin
