making and maturing disciples of Jesus Christ in Birmingham and for the world

Youth work at SSSW is part of the church’s wider vision – Making and Maturing young people as disciples of Jesus Christ. As a team of leaders, we aim to do this by:

  • supporting parents, who are the primary disciple-makers
  • teaching Jesus from the Bible
  • praying for the young people
  • modelling Christian living as we meet together

Club 114 (11 to 14 year olds)

Thursday Club Night: On Thursday evenings at St Stephen’s, from 6.30-8.00pm, we meet for a fun evening including a short Bible study or talk. Newcomers and friends are really welcome to come along. We also do things like bowling, playing games in the park, cooking, or doing some art and craft.

Sundays: We come to the 4pm service together, and leave part way through to study the Bible, pray and do various activities together.

Cross Section (14 to 18 year olds)

Thursday Bible Study: After school, from 4:30-5:30pm. We eat cereal and chat, then at 5:00pm start our Bible Study.

Sundays: We meet after the 4pm service, from 5.30-7.00pm at St Stephen’s. During that time, we usually have a talk or a Bible study, pray together, play games and eat lots of toast. Our Bible studies usually follow the sermon series in the 4pm service, thinking about how we can apply what we have learned to our lives, but we also have regular topical studies. Examples include sessions thinking about Science and God, or why we have Communion.

Other Activities

Social Events

Both Club 114 and Cross Section have a social activity each half-term. These include things like: Film Nights, barbeques, games in the park and going out for ice-cream.

Weekend Away

We have an annual weekend away for both Club 114 and Cross Section. We head to the Gaines Manor, which has loads of great activities for us to enjoy as we socialise and learn together as we look at the Bible. To find out more about the Gaines, visit

Summer Camps

Our members and leaders go to two summer camps run CPAS Ventures:

11-14s – Quinta (22nd – 28th July 2018 = 6 nights £219)
This camp is for our 11-14 year olds. This includes those who are in year 6 even if they will not have had their 11th birthday by the time of camp.

14-18s – Foremarke 2 (29th July – 5th August 2018 = 7 nights £285)
This camp is for our 14-18 year olds. This includes those who are in year 9 even if they will not have had their 14th birthday by the time of camp.

These are a great time when we can go on holiday, meet young people from all over the country, do exciting new activities and learn more about Jesus and what it means to follow him.
